1.  Preface
===========
Thank you very much for purchasing the Fujitsu ATAPI magneto-optical (MO) disk
drive.
This software enables simple low-level or logical formatting of MO disks from
MS-DOS menu screens.
Note that the formatting process destroys all existing data on the disk.
This package supports the FUJITSU M25-MCA3064AP(128/230/540/640 MB) MO disk
drive.

2.  Before Installation
=======================
2.1  Operating Environment (Hardware)
-------------------------------------
To use the formatter, the following hardware is required:
(1) PC/AT-compatible machine
(2) Fujitsu ATAPI MO disk drive

2.2  Operating Environment (Software)
-------------------------------------
To operate the formatter, the following software is required:
(1) MS-DOS Ver. 5.0 or later
(2) Fujitsu device driver "MODISKAP.SYS" for ATAPI MO disk drives

3.  Installation
================
When the device driver for the M25-MCA3064AP is installed,
this formatting Utility is also installed.
The installation source disk need not be a floppy disk.
You can create a subdirectory on your hard disk, and copy all the necessary
files into the subdirectory before installation.
The following installation procedures assume that the installer is in floppy
disk drive A.
(1) Installation in a DOS environment
    1) Set the current drive to A:\.
    2) At the prompt, type the following:
       A:\DOS\INSTALL [Enter]
       The [Enter] notation means "Press the Enter key".
    3) Follow the on-screen instructions.
    4) After installation is complete, remove the floppy disk and reboot the
       computer.

(2) Installation under a Windows 3.1 (or WFW 3.11) environment
    1) Insert the installation disk into drive A.
    2) Open the "File (F)" menu of File Manager.
    3) Select "Run."
    4) Enter "A:\SETUP.EXE" in the text box and click the OK button.
    5) Follow the instructions displayed on the setup program screen.
    6) After installation is complete, remove the floppy disk and reboot the
       computer.

4.  Program Activation
======================
This formatter can be activated in two ways:
(1) Activation from MS-DOS
    Run "FJFDISK.EXE" from the directory (C:\FJMOAP) where the formatter is
    installed.
(2) Activation from Windows 3.1(or WFW 3.11)
    Double-click "FJFDISK.EXE" in the directory (C:\FJM0AP) from the file
    Manager.
    Once the formatter has been activated, follow the instructions on the menu
    screen.
    See Chapter 5 for details.

5.  Explanation of the Formatter
================================
This formatter can perform low-level formatting and logical formatting of 128/
230/540/640MB MO disks.

Notes:
     (1) Formatting destroys all the data on a disk.
     (2) This formatter only operates when the MO device driver "MODISKAP.SYS"
         is registered in the CONFIG.SYS file.

5.1 Supported Low-level MO Disk Formats
========================================
This formatter can format the following MO disks:
(1) 128MB total,   512 bytes per sector
(2) 230MB total,   512 bytes per sector
(3) 540MB total,   512 bytes per sector
(4) 640MB total,  2048 bytes per sector

5.2 Supported Logical MO Disk Formats
======================================
This formatter supports three types of logical format:
(1) Super floppy disk
(2) NSR
(3) AT-Hard disk
The above three formats are in the DOS File Allocation Table (FAT) format.
In formats (2) and (3), multiple partitions can be created on an MO disk, just
like on a hard disk.

6. MO Formatter (FJFDISK.EXE) Operation Method
===============================================
Activate the formatter to display the initial screen.

If the number of partitions created is equal to or less than the number of
drives allocated to the device driver, the computer need not be rebooted.
If the number of partitions created is larger than the number of drives, the
system will not recognize the excess partitions until the computer is rebooted.
Notes:
   (1) Only a device driver that supports the NSR format can handle disks in
       NSR format.
   (2) Refer to MODISK.TXT, section 5 before using a multi-partitioned MO disk.
   (3) When deleting existing partitions,
       start from the highest partition number.
